For Good: Two Words That Guide Us
Our company was built on the idea that we could change healthcare finance together—for good. That means changes that benefit the entire healthcare industry, and each and every patient. Changes that are meant to last.
We believe, by putting the consumer first and treating them as individuals, we can build a better patient financial experience. We can build a better relationship between our clients and their patients—transforming the overall patient journey as we go… for good. This is the bar with which we measure our actions and goals at VisitPay—the guiding principle that inspires what we do every day.
But it’s even bigger than that. “Just as we work hard to make the lives of our clients and their patients better, it’s important to our employees that we do good in the communities we live and work in,” says Jeannine Eiband, Director of Human Resources at VisitPay.
Doing good is a mindset that permeates the VisitPay organization. “Employees at VisitPay are some of the most generous individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” says Jeannine. The challenges of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic exemplify this point. “We were incredibly blessed during 2020 in that our employees were not subject to layoffs or pay reductions,” says Jeannine. “It increased our employees’ desire to give back to others who were struggling to reach out and ask, ‘What more can we do for those around us?’ Employees were very generous with their own dollars as well as their desire to use our canceled holiday party funds on other people less fortunate during this difficult time. We didn’t let quarantine stop us from giving! Rather, we organized drive-thru food donations and online ‘giving trees’ at the holidays.”
Over the holidays, VisitPay found a way to thank essential workers. We delivered lunches to 150 medical workers at St. Luke’s Health System Meridian Hospital. It was a small but heartfelt way of saying thank you for their time, dedication, the risk to themselves and their families, as well as their love of others by caring for those illest in our community.
VisitPay supports its clients in their own community efforts, too. We want to be a true partner to them, and be there for the good they are doing. VisitPay reached out to the St. Luke’s Foundation to help organize an online donation drive, which provided items and financial assistance to longer-term patients. “More and more people are requiring lengthy hospital stays due to COVID and other related illnesses,” says Jeannine. “We wanted to provide items that directly impacted the patients and met their needs. St. Luke’s Foundation allowed us to do this.”
VisitPay also made a donation to the Carilion Clinic Foundation, which focuses on improving treatment options for patients of the future. We donated to Intermountain Patient Relief Fund as well, which helps people who are in need of medical care but face financial obstacles. We supported the Intermountain Area Ronald McDonald House Charities, which helps families facing life-altering and difficult medical experiences. Most recently, we donated to Ascension’s Ministry and Mission Fund, which helps give caregivers access to learning and development programs.
This philosophy of caring for others, and seeing it in action, make our employees excited about the future—both in terms of continuing our goal of improving the patient financial experience for more people and more providers, and in doing what we can to spread goodness outside of our product. “When the current environment allows, we plan on participating in more hands-on charitable activities with local organizations—such as Paint the Town, Rake Up Boise, Idaho Food Bank, and greenbelt cleanup,” says Jeannine. “In addition to continuing our local involvement, my goal for this year is to increase our charitable contributions in cities where other clients are headquartered, I know our employees will have many ideas for how to best use our resources in 2021 and beyond.”
“For good” is more than a slogan. It’s how we think, how we live, and how we do business. We’re looking forward to taking that mission to new places in 2021.
